Thanks to Everyone and See You Next Year!!! · 74 days ago
Well, it’s been almost a month since the 3rd annual Buffalo Small Press Book Fair, and I’ve finally recovered. I’ll be posting pictures soon – there’s a Flickr group if you’re interested in posting your pictures – just search it. And by all means, let us know if you blogged or wrote about the event!
I wanted to extend my sincerest thanks and gratitude to all of the vendors, sponsors, and attendees – all of you helped make the fair a complete success for the 3rd year in a row.
I’d also like to extend a special thanks to people who helped me every step of the way and made special contributions: Chris Kelly, Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, Mike Basinski, Amy Hartman, Rich Kegler, Courtney Brent, Peter Lazarski, HERO Design Studio, and the Poetry Collection at SUNY at Buffalo.
Finally, I’d like to extend my apologies to Imago and Red Iron Press who accidentally got left off the program this year! Thanks for being understanding! Check out their stuff at http://www.imagorediron.ca/
I’m signing off until next year. I won’t be checking the book fair email or taking applications until this December or next January. There will be no early booking; everyone has to wait until then!
All the best – thank you for making it happen!!!

Workshops Up! Help Promote!!! · 115 days ago
Just writing to let everyone know that the list of free workshops is up at www.buffalosmallpress.org/schedule All the workshops are free and open to the public. Learn how to bookbind, screenprint, make and distribute zines!
In addition, I’ve been hard at work on this year’s custom hand letterpressed program covers. I’ve put pics up on Facebook and Myspace so check those out.
WE NEED EVERYONE TO HELP SPREAD THE WORD. The Book Fair has been such an amazing success in the past couple years because of word of mouth advertising. Tell all your friends. Invite people to the event on Facebook. Help us distribute posters and handbills (yes, they’re finally here!), text people about it, send them to the website, link from your website (get a banner at www.buffalosmallpress.org/sponsor), email all your friends, do it all!
If you want to help, just email us!
Until soon,
Chris

The Big Push! · 123 days ago
Great news everyone!
It’s only 3 short weeks until the 2009 Buffalo Small Press Book Fair, and things are looking fantastic. We have over 60 vendors lined up already, and even more to come. Artists are coming from Baltimore, NYC, Boston, OH, PA, Toronto, and plenty of other places all across the Northeast just to share their wares. Don’t miss this chance to see their work.
Print materials are on the way, and this year’s posters and handbills look amazing again, thanks to HERO Design. I’ll have them in hand early next week, so if you’d like to help distribute them just let me know! If you want a sneak preview, check our Facebook or Myspace pages.
Full sponsorship opportunities are now closed, but limited sponsorship and individual sponsorship opportunities are still open – so if you’re considering lending your support, do it now! Email me with any questions! I know it’s a slim year for everyone, but we could really use it.
Finally, the details of workshops and readings are being hammered out. As it stands now, during the day of the fair in the upstairs room of the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, we’ll be holding 3 workshops related to bookmaking. The topics are yet to be worked out in full, but all of the workshops will be free and open to the public.
Readings have been handed over to my good friends Aaron Lowinger and Mike Kelleher, and word is they’ll be held the Friday night before the book fair at Buffalo’s own Sugar City. As soon as I have that reading schedule, it’ll be posted on the website.
I’ll be sending out updates once or twice a week from here on out – just to keep everyone in the know.
More soon,
Chris
PS: If you want to vend, we still have a few spots, but you better apply soon!

Update on Reading Schedule/Workshops · 158 days ago
We’re finally done restructuring, and unfortunately there won’t be any readings concurrent with the book fair this year. There will be readings in the days running up to the book fair, however, and as soon as I have more information about those I’ll be posting the schedule on the website.
We love giving everyone an opportunity to share their work, but at this point, we don’t have the resources to make readings possible logistically.
Instead of readings, we’ll be having free skill building workshops (possibly screenprinting, bookbinding, etc). We think it’s important to give book artists and others the chance to learn things that will enhance their work. As soon as we have the details squared away, we’ll be posting those on the website as well.
In other news, the vendors keep rolling in, so check out the links on the website. HERO Design is hard at work on this year’s posters and handbills, and I’m mapping out this year’s hand letterpressed programs!
As always, we still need sponsors, so if you’re thinking of donating or have a great idea about partners we can pursue, just let us know!!!

Until next week…
